As we are in the second half of the year there has been a lot of attention on the new smartphone from OnePlus. The big feature coming with the OnePlus 6T is the in-display fingerprint sensor and the waterdrop notch that Oppo used for the R17. However, last year’s OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T customers are unlikely to be upgrading to either the OnePlus 6 or the OnePlus 6T this year, so they’ve kept their eyes on new software updates. As the company’s Open Beta program gets updates quicker, OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T customers can look forward to an update that adds a new gallery gesture and some community features.
It was just last month when these two devices received their last open beta update which brought the OnePlus 5 up to Open Beta version 19 and the OnePlus 5T up to Open Beta version 17. The focus of those updates was mainly on the OnePlus Switch application. However, the Weather application did receive some optimization to the UI and it did come with September’s security patches. This time around, the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T didn’t get any of October’s security patches but the update does add a new gesture to the Gallery application which lets you close a picture by swiping down on the gallery application.
The other changes included in the Open Beta 20 and Open Beta 18 for the OnePlus 5 and 5T are for its Community application. There are a number of changes here including community notices being added as a feature, a new feed to let you follow community members, and there are more options when it comes to sharing threads. The developers have set the application up so that stickied comments are displayed in the application and they have also worked on some general user interface and bug fixes as well.
If you are already running the open beta on your OnePlus 5 or OnePlus 5T then you’ll see this update appear as a traditional OTA update. However, if you want to switch over from the stable channel the company recommends you refer to the flashing instructions and the full ROM on the downloads page.
